Support to families

Too many people still believe that a funeral home is only there to transport the body of a deceased and execute his last will.

Today, many people are totally lost when such event happens and are taking decisions based on the financial aspects only. Some people think that they won’t have enough financial resources or that the funeral home will use the situation to exagerate. The solution is to let Bleuciel guide you through all the procedures.

At Bleuciel Espace Hommage , we believe when a death happens that we should first take care of the family before we proceed with the arrangements

    Whether it be by taking charge of the procedures on your behalf with the RRQ or by referring the family to a notary for a free consultation (please note that no notary or legal counsellor is an employee of Bleuciel), you could be assured that you will get our support and assistance before, during and even after the funerals. Therefore, instead of concentrating only on the financial aspects of the funerals, you will be able to take clear decisions which will serve the celebration of life ceremony for the deceased.

Legal formalities

When someone dies many administrative steps have to be taken care of :

  • The recording of the death with the Directeur de l’état civil du Québec;
  • The cancellation of several official ID cards (RAMQ, SIN, SAAQ, etc.);
  • The cancellation of bank and credit cards;
  • The cancellation of different active contracts (lease, car, telephone, internet, etc.);
  • The confirmation of the death with financial institutions.

As no one is alike, the number of steps will vary. Once the death declaration is completed, many of those steps will be taken care of by the Directeur de l’État civil du Québec. Only the personal commitments of the deceased are left. A legal counsellor will be able to help you through the necessary steps as quickly as possible.

Embalming

Embalming is the act of preparing a deceased for viewing. Once upon a time, this was automatically performed. For religious reasons, the embalmer was going from houses to houses to proceed as quickly as possible. This process was allowing the deceased to be viewed at home even many days following the death.

Today, less and less people are choosing to expose the deceased. But, many would like to take sometime with him, privately, to bid him farewell before the cremation. It is important to remember that to be in the presence of a deceased more than 24 hours following his death, the embalming is mandatory, unless the body is presented in a concealed casket.

At Bleuciel Espace Hommage we consider that the respect of the deceased is of prime importance. Our specialized and experienced technician will use a meticulous care in this act that has been performed for ages, respecting the guidelines of his profession and using the most recent techniques to do so.

Burial or cremation

Different disposal methods of a deceased remains are existing:

  • Burial
  • Cremation
  • Aquamation

In Québec, laws are quite clear and strict regarding the body disposal procedures. The old saying that several bodies are cremated at the same time is a myth. Cemeteries and crematoriums are keeping a detailed record of deceased remains disposal, protecting the population of any abuse or fraud.

    • You will often hear people say:

« I don’t want to be exposed, but i wish to be cremated.»

    It is important to remember that cremation is a method of disposal and not a funeral procedure like the viewing.

Today, close to 85% of deceased in the Montreal area and close to 70% of Quebecers are choosing the cremation as a disposal method.

This choice is motivated by different reasons:

  • The available space in cemeteries;
  • The wish to keep the deceased close to us after the funeral;
  • The ecological imprint of the procedure;
  • The costs related to the burial of a casket;
  • The fear of bugs when buried;
  • The religious beliefs;
  • The death circumstances.

There are as many reasons as there are people, but none is more valuable than the other.

Whether you choose the burial or the cremation, our family counselors will guide you and make sure that the choosen disposal respects the wishes of the deceased or his family.

Planning and delivery of tailored funeral services

Bleuciel Espace Hommage will plan and execute the funeral arrangements according to the family wishes while respecting the last will of the deceased if they were consigned in a prearranged plan.

We believe that offering packages is only serving the purpose of selling goods and services leading to a false sense of economy.

For us, your needs and wishes when meeting with our support team must translate in a goods and services offer that respect your will.

When planning a funeral ceremony, we encourage the involvement and creativity of the family members. This approach allows the family to go through the mourning process more easily. It allows them to plan an event that is more personalized, without unnecessary additional costs that are built-in a package and not suited to the real needs of the family.

If you want to live a special moment that respects your values and beliefs, give us a call and we will be pleased to serve you.

Obituaries preparation and communication to the medias

    • The obituary is a way for you to inform friends and family of the death of one of its member. Even though it is not a legal obligation, the obituary is also giving you the opportunity to inform all relatives about the funeral details. The price will vary from one media to the other according to the size of the text and if you are adding a photo.

Bleuciel can help you in the obituary preparation. Also, we will publish it on our web site free of charge, allowing every one to be properly informed.

Urns and caskets choices

At Bleuciel, we believe that it is preferable to do the planning with the family first and then, proceed with the choice of a casket or an urn.

At Bleuciel, we believe that it is preferable to do the planning with the family first and then, proceed with the choice of a casket or an urn.

Several options are available. For instance, whether you are choosing a casket or an urn, different materials are available :

  • wood;
  • long lasting metals (copper, bronze, stainless steel, glass and others);
  • regular steel;
  • biodegradable materials (bamboo, vegetable fibers, etc.)

The material for the production of a casket or an urn will of course determine the price. The choice is yours either from our catalogues or your choice from another source.

Transport of a deceased

When a death happens, our first task is to recuperate the body of the deceased. Following, other manipulations of the body may be required depending on the chosen funeral plan.

The first transport of a body is generally called ‘’first call’’. Already, our personnel would have talked to the person in charge of the funeral arrangements and obtain his/her authorization to proceed with the first transport. Once on site, Bleuciel employees will make sure that the required documentation (SP-3 form) has been properly completed and signed by a physician.

Considering that we may be called on different sites: hospitals, long term care centers, nursing homes, homes or the morgue, the procedures may vary.

However, wherever the body is recuperated, the Bleuciel team will identify the deceased, remove all personal effects and jewelry still on the body and note everything on the body transport form. Then, they will remit a copy of this bill to the person in charge on site.

Finally, the body will be taken to the cold room until the funeral plan is completed. The embalming or cremation will never be performed before the contract is signed and the authorization given.

The location or distance has no effect on the care and respect shown to the deceased by our team of transporters.

Columbarium

When planning the funerals, if you have chosen the cremation, you can:

  • bury the ashes in a cemetery;
  • keep the ashes at home;
  • locate the urn in a columbarium;
  • Scatter or submerge the ashes.

If you have decided to buy a niche in a columbarium, two locations are offered to you;

  • in a cemetery;
  • In a funeral home.

It is very important to verify the contract terms of the location that you have chosen, because some contracts are for a limited time or other conditions that may not suit you well.

At Bleuciel our columbarium niches are sold for a period of 99 years, bringing tranquility to the families.

Thank-you cards

Thank-you cards, also known as ‘’souvenir bookmarks’’ or ‘’souvenir cards’’, allow families to hand over a souvenir or a message from the deceased. These cards can also be presented with a framed photo presented during the viewing at our funeral home.

The cards can be ordered through the funeral home. The director or one of the family counsellor will guide you in choosing the model, the texts and the quantities

The products offered by Bleuciel are high end and our specialists producing the cards will make sure that you are part of the approval process before production.

Reception area and catering

Over many years funeral homes have created special environments allowing families and friends of the deceased to share a last meal honoring his memory. Bleuciel offers you a reception area called ‘’The Bistro’’. Ideal to share memories, this room is made to relax while enjoying a cold or hot drink.
Using several small tables, we can set it up at your convenience. Furthermore, our kitchen equipment allows you to serve cold or hot meals or use them to warm-up a meal prepared by our caterer who offers a variety of quality food choices.

Whether you choose to serve a snack or a more elaborated meal, Bleuciel Espace Hommage welcomes you in our “Café Bistro”.

Espace hommage

More and more families are planning commemorative ceremonies instead of more religious and traditional ceremonies. This is why funeral homes are now offering more conventional rooms where families and friends are gathering to honor the deceased.

These spaces are replacing the traditional church ceremony and allow you to stay on site. By doing so, it doesn’t mean that the memorial aspect of the ceremony is neglected. Our ‘’espace hommage’’ is perfectly suited for everyone to meditate.

Bleuciel-Espace Hommage offers you to use our commemorative room and to add music, video presentation or any other element that will make this event special and memorable.

Floral arrangement

When a death happens, there are so many things to think about and often, one of the last detail is the choice of floral arrangements.

Bleuciel Espace Hommage can also help you with this task. Our funeral floral service is very efficient at a very reasonable price. No more worries about the order nor the delivery, we take care of it on your behalf and we guarantee the freshness and quality of the arrangements.

Our floral service will provide you with fresh flowers at a price that will meet your budget and expectations.
