Obituary Notice

Ariane Béatrice Denise Nelly Isler-de Jongh

It is with sadness that we announce the death of Ariane Isler née de Jongh, on October 1, 2024, in her 100th year.

She is survived by her children Monique Isler, Nicole Gullu, Marc Isler (Sylvia Jugel), Philippe Isler (Carole Lalonde), her grandchildren Nicolas (Blondèle), Sorren (Jack), Kirima, Laina (Philip), Shane, Julia, Mathieu and Marie, and her great-grandchildren Mathis, Micah and Arjun, as well as her nieces and nephews and their families in Switzerland, the U.K. and France, other relatives and friends.

Born in Lausanne, Switzerland, she trained as a photographer, and emigrated with her husband to Montreal. When the children were grown, she returned to her studies in Art History, obtaining her doctorate at the age of 60. She then moved to Victoria, British Columbia, with her husband on his retirement, where she was active in art history at the University of Victoria. Those close to her will remember her as a beautiful, cultured, intelligent and warm person.

Farewell ceremonies will be held at later dates in Montreal and Victoria, B.C., where family members will lay the urn at Ross Bay Cemetery beside that of her husband, the late Henri Isler.

The family would like to thank the staff of CHSLD Château Westmount, who were with her for so many years.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in her name to the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts or the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria.
